Former Hurricanes players held conference call

By: @AndySlater

Former Hurricanes football players held a conference call on Thursday to discuss a possible role in helping the University of Miami select the next head coach, according to sources close to the situation.

Multiple former 'Canes were on the call including Bryant McKinnie, Edgerrin James, and Jonathan Vilma. I'm told Vilma is acting as the voice of the group.

Among the former players that were part of Thursday's discussion, their goal is to have one or two seats on any committee that may be set up by Miami athletic director Blake James to select the Hurricanes next head coach.

It's unclear how the former players who were included on the conference call were actually selected.

When asked to confirm the conversation happened, McKinnie on Saturday afternoon told me "it took place" but provided no other details.

James and Vilma were unable to be reached for comment.

Charges against former Canes DT Wyche dismissed

By: @AndySlater

(Updated: Nov. 18, 2016 - Charges against Michael Wyche were dismissed, Miami-Dade County court records show)

Statement by Wyche:

I apologize to every kid that looked up to me. I allowed myself to be put in a situation to be misinterpreted. I'm happy the truth finally came to light. I'm extremely aware of the magnitude of domestic violence, which I've never committed in my life. I've never been that type of person if anyone truly knows me. I just appreciate everyone, my family, friends, and most importantly my fans that stuck by me. I'm happy I get a chance to continue playing the game that saved my life from the streets.

Original story below:

Miami Hurricanes DT Michael Wyche was arrested and booked into jail early Wednesday morning as the Palm Beach Post's Matt Porter first reported.

According to police, Wyche and his girlfriend allegedly got into an argument over sleeping arrangements. The argument escalated to a point where Wyche allegedly pushed his girlfriend and threw her onto a bed several times.

Wyche's girlfriend told police that he also threw her against the wall, one of the times so hard she hit the back of her head.

Police said Wyche's girlfriend had a bloody lip and torn clothing. She was treated at the scene.

Wyche and his girlfriend have had a relationship for about five years, according to police. They also have a child.

Wyche was being held on a misdemeanor, domestic violence charge.

The Miami Hurricanes said Wyche has been suspended indefinitely following the arrest.

Luke's Top 5 for next Canes coach

By: @unclelukereal1

I unveiled my Top 5 candidates for the University of Miami coaching job today, live on The Andy Slater Show on 940 AM WINZ and iHeartRadio.

If you didn't get to hear it, I have the list for you below.

My Top 5 candidates:

#5 Charlie Strong (Texas HC) - Charlie's career was made off of South Florida kids as a defensive coordinator at Florida and head coach at Louisville. He had more than 35 kids from South Florida on his roster and would be a perfect fit.

#4 Mark Stoops (Kentucky HC) - Mark is a former UM coach with a great defensive mind. He loves South Florida and will definitely bring the swagger back.

#3 Dana Holgorsen (West Virginia HC) - Dana currently has two coaches on his staff from South Florida. When it comes to talent, he covers South Florida like no other.

#2 Mario Cristobal (Alabama OL coach) - Mario would bring the same passion and energy that Dan Campbell brought to the Miami Dolphins this season. He would have the same exact coaching style.

#1 Tim Brewster (FSU TE coach, recruiting coordinator) - Tim has experience as a head coach in Minnesota. He is the #1 recruiter in South Florida and the country for two straight years. Tim also has the best QB committed to him right now -- Malik Henry.

Miss Florida Ice set to be crowned

By: @AndySlater

The Florida Panthers will hold the NHL's first known beauty pageant. On Saturday, one lucky girl will be crowned as the first "Miss Florida Ice."

The winner of the pageant will be recognized at Panthers home games and attend team community events.

According to the team's website, contestants had to pay a $200 fee (typical in pageantry) and then select which city they would like to represent.

If you're not able to make it to Saturday's game at BB&T Center for the pageant, you can at least see some of the contestants below.
