“My car just did a 360.”
Tampa Bay Bucs defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul called police following a car accident on I-95 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
In exclusively-obtained audio, Pierre-Paul can be heard describing the 2 a.m. crash.
He told the dispatcher, “I hit the median, but I’m okay.”
However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Pierre-Paul fractured his neck and could potentially miss the entire 2019 season. He will see a specialist with the hope of saving some of his season.
Pierre-Paul requested that a trooper come out to help remove his car from the crash site because it was blocking a lane.
Pierre-Paul and his passenger, James Thompson, were both taken to the hospital by fire rescue at around 3 a.m. That is 20 minutes after the crash.
A woman called 911 to report the accident as well.
On her audio, she correctly points out that Pierre-Paul was traveling southbound at the time of the crash. Pierre-Paul said that he was heading northbound. He may have been disoriented by the accident, however, he appears fairly lucid on the 911 call.
According to a source, the Ferrari was going 65 miles an hour, at the speed limit. Road conditions may have played a factor as it was wet and raining.
There have been several internet reports about a crash at 5 a.m.
TMZ reported about a crash on northbound I-95 just north of Pembroke Road. However, this is not the correct car accident. The dispatch audio posted does not belong to the crash that involved the Bucs' star.
Pierre-Paul’s accident happened 8 miles further north and earlier in the morning.
This is the second high-profile injury suffered by the 30-year-old pass rusher.
In 2015, he lost his right index finger and parts of his hand in a 4th of July fireworks accident.
