Madness at the mall!

A handcuffed suspect was able to escape from police and run right through Aventura Mall in the middle of the afternoon.

Take a look at this exclusively obtained video from last week.

Police originally picked up 24-year-old Roosevelt Williams for allegedly making fraudulent purchases at the ‘Scotch and Soda’ store in Aventura.

Detectives say they were walking Williams out of the store in handcuffs. According to the police report, the officer was switching hands to hold Williams when “the suspect suddenly twisted his upper body to break free.”

The video picks up the story from there.

You can see Williams, still in handcuffs, run past shoppers who were on the escalator.

Williams pushes the door to the front of the mall open, with officers in pursuit behind him.

Once outside the mall, Williams is stopped by mall security. He is quickly joined by several other officers.

Having secured the suspect for the second time, officers try to walk Williams inside the mall. You can see Williams taken down again.

Officers claim that the suspect twisted his body again, this time hitting the officer in the left side of the face, causing a minor injury to the officer. Williams also said that he had injuries to his left wrist and neck.

Williams was told that he would be placed in leg shackles because he is a flight risk, but that he would be taken to the hospital.

Officers say, he then took back his claims of injury and said, “You got me, I’m good, I don’t want to go to the hospital.”

Both Williams and the officer were taken to urgent care to have their injuries checked out.

Williams is now facing several charges including credit card fraud, battery on an officer, and resisting arrest.
