Fernandez "sounded like he was in really bad shape" before crash, other victim's friend says

It will be some time before the investigation is finished, but we continue to learn more about what may have led up to the tragic boat crash that took the lives of Marlins' superstar Jose Fernandez and two other men.

Will Bernal is best friends with Eddy Rivero, who was on the boat with Fernandez early Sunday morning. Bernal joined me on my radio show Monday afternoon and provided some exclusive details of a phone call conversation he had with Rivero.

Bernal said this was Rivero's first time going on a boat with Fernandez. Emilio Macias, who was also killed in the crash, didn't join Fernandez and Rivero until the boat docked at American Social restaurant in Brickell, Bernal said.

"When [Macias] came down to meet them, that was first time he was actually ever meeting Jose as well," Bernal said.
